Studio E offers two programs recommended for our "elementary level" students who are in grades K-4. Mixed Media meets in our drawing/painting classroom and covers 2D projects. Ceramics meets in our ceramics/pottery classroom and covers 3D projects. These classes are recommended for ages 5-9, but may vary depending on experience. Parents of first time students/students on the borders of age ranges are welcome to contact the studio directly in order to ensure their child is being registered for the class that best fits their needs. Drop in classes are available based on class space and must be paid for prior to drop in class. Please call or email the studio directly to schedule.
$200/7 week session
Students will begin class with a guided project from week to week with room to put their own creative touches on the project. The structure of this course encourages perseverance, project planning and creativity. Every week students in this 90 minute class will learn the foundations of hand building techniques including slab rolling, coil rolling, score/slipping, trimming, pinching, wedging, glazing, painting, cleaning and caring for their station. Please note, students WILL NOT use the pottery wheels in this course as this is reserved for older students. The last classes of the session will be reserved for glazing and painting and final pieces will be typically available for pick up the week after completion.
Children's Mixed Media
$200/7 week session
Each 90 minute class will have a teacher guided project in which students will be given space for experimentation and creativity as they explore using different mediums. This class is perfect for allowing younger students to develop their artistic voice, and will likewise increase their confidence in and appreciation for the arts. Materials will vary every week to include found objects (cardboard, buttons, bottle caps, bubble wrap) tempera paint/sticks, watercolor, oil pastels, chalk pastels, markers, and colored pencils. Students will be supported in strengthening skills in drawing, cutting on a line, mixing colors, assembling images, collage, painting, blending and more. Famous artists, art movements and art history will be incorporated into projects.
