The Art of Storytelling with Illustrator Mark Levine
$239/ 7 week session ($40 drop in)
Age Level: Tween and up (ages 10 and up)
In this weekly two hour class, students will work towards drawing and illustration goals, working to create their own story line with characters that they have created. The Art-of-Storytelling will give each student the opportunity to explore their own concepts, stories, characters, in a sequential layout used in comic book and graphic novels. The course however is not limited to storyboarding for comic books. Mark will present his techniques and methodology to the class as a whole as they can be applied to produce comic strips, cell animation, storyboards for a video game, or online graphics. It is important to note that each student will be given one on one direction and support by him in each class. Mark will encourage each student to work on their own level as far as talent, abilities, interest, and subject matter.
Mark will direct each student to work on individual goals, stay on task and learn a new skill set. Some students will complete a three page story while others might complete a couple of stories that are 3-5 pages. Mark does not give students homework due to the heavy load of homework already given by their teachers-but optional assignments based on developing their unique skill set, using whatever artistic media they may have at home. Besides tapping into each student's drawing and painting abilities as it applies to illustrating, the instructor will teach layout and design, printing techniques, calligraphy, masthead-title page design and art direction.
Lastly, Mark will encourage a “team” atmosphere that reflects on art studio bullpens that produce artwork for the comic book industry. He accomplish this by sharing ideas, sketching together, and discussing a broad range of subjects.
The Art of Drawing
$216.50/7 week session ($35 drop in)
Age Level: 15 and up
This class is geared toward adults and focuses on “The Art of Drawing". If you always thought about how to further your understanding, skills and talent you currently use while creating a drawing, my class will help guide you. As with all my classes, each student is recognized where they are, is so far as their current skills and talent. That said, what ever you want to focus on is what I will teach you. With small classes, I give each student my undivided attention and guidance.
We will be using the following mediums: Graphite, charcoal, Nu-pastels, Ink, and ebony pencils to explore the basics: shading, perspective, color, composition, methods, and paper.
REQUIRED: As I give weekly assignments to further your engagement with drawing, a sketchbook/any size you are comfortable with is important for your growth. Classes are diverse in age and skills, from young adults to senior citizens… if you have the passion and some skills- I would enjoy having you as a student.
